While in Meridian we followed an ATDA to Meehan and heard on the radio NSJA was in Hickory after after the hit a tree and another one fell into the train, splitting it in half. ATDA was instructed to hold short of Hickory siding as the NSJA was split with damaged air lines and a broken knuckle. Meanwhile, several KCS men were enroute with chainsaws and a work truck to do spot repairs on the railcars and engine. While it didnt damage the engines, the pieces of tree lodged up in a railcar snagged air lines causing it to rupture and fail. It would take several hours of repair and backing the NSJA into the siding to clear up the line. |
