PREAMBLE EXPRESS
The American Freedom Train Foundation’s PREAMBLE EXPRESS was parked on track 3 in New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal for a brief visit as the AFTF was making arrangements for the AMERICAN FREEDOM TRAIN tour. Cars 1-4 arrived and left here behind Union Pacific E9A 951, which had been painted red, white and blue for this duty. Car 4 was originally Reading commuter coach 1329, built by Bethlehem Shipbuilding in Wilmington, Delaware in 1922. It became PERMACEL EXPRESS car P3 in 1966, when it received its open platform, then SPRINGMAID SPECIAL car 14 in 1968 and then PREAMBLE EXPRESS car 4 in mid-1974. It was subsequently renumbered 205 for use on the AFT, then went to BC Rail as the BRITANNIA and then went into dinner train service in Idaho and Washington.
