| Looking down the platform of the former C&NW Neenah-Menasha depot reveals a CN local momentarily fouling Garfield Ave. as it works at the north end of the former C&NW Neenah-Menasha yard on Doty Island at Menasha, WI on 2 Sep. '19. The depot was built in 1893 to replace the original ca. 1861 depot. It was restored in 1994 and is currently home to Gries Architectural Group, Inc., and Sturtevant & Associates, LLC, an insurance firm, 500 N. Commercial St. The original C&NW Neenah depot, built ca. 1861, was located on S. Commercial St., near Galloway Co., 601 S. Commercial St. The depot was later moved behind the Jersild Knitting Co., 333 N. Commercial St (about 400-500 feet behind me). It was razed after the new depot was completed. The border between the Twin Cities of Neenah and Menasha bisects the yard about 200 feet north of the depot. |
