Trying to picture this with tracks, and a smattering of CNJ Trainmasters, along with Reading FP 7's in from Philly.....The station was largely empty after the Aldene Plan was implemented in 1967. That scheme resulted in the situation that exists today, where all CNJ trains were moved from this station to Newark Penn via a connection to the LV east of Cranford, then to the Northeast Corridor-it was still the Pennsy in those days-at Hunter Tower. CNJ trains terminated at Newark, then pulled up to a yard in Kearny, where they laid over. This affected trains on the Raritan Line, as well as trains to the NY&LB-and which is why trains originating at NY Penn had 3300 series numbers, and trains originating at Newark had 5300 series numbers on that line. It was more efficient for riders, and allowed CNJ to save a pot of money on terminal operations, not that it made any difference in the long run. Still, nice album, and good to see this station again.

That wide area at center right is where Tracks 2 and 3 were removed to provide a driveway to trackside for B&O buses as they came off the ferry. According to a B&O timetable, B&O passengers could make reservations for space for an automobile on the same ferrry as the buses for those taking a taxi or having someone drop them off right on the plateform.

(That should read platform.) Factoid: that yard in Kearny where CNJ trains originated and terminated showed as "CNJ Yard" in the PRR employee timetable.
