FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Altoona, Pennsylvania. Photo Caption: "Climbing up to the Horseshoe Curve from the east. September, 1949." Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9534 and two more "EF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9534 is an EF-15 built in September of 1948 and retired in October of 1967 after just 19 years of revenue service. They're passing under four-track Signal Bridge #2406 on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. This photo comes from a B&W slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-67). |
