BO 2-8-8-4 #7602 - Baltimore & Ohio
This massive brute, B&O 2-8-8-4 #7602, was one of the last articulated steam locomotives built in the US. Although B&O wanted diesels in 1944 but were forced by the war effort to order only steam, this massive locomotive served a desparate need for power to move coal in the West Virginia area. Built by Baldwin in 1944, the last of this class was retired in 1960. Specs - EM-1 class). 64" drivers, an impressive 235 psi boiler pressure, 24"x32" cylinders, engine weight of 628,700 lb and impressive tractive effort of 115,000 lb. No photographer, date or location was listed on the photo. Thanks to John Kernan (see comment below), the locaiton is New Castle, PA. Thanks John for your help!
