| A CN through freight parallels Union St. as it backs into the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 6 Jun. '20. Train had three locomotives, CN 3059, CN 2861, CN 3276. A couple of interesting old buildings can be seen in the background to the left. The near one is currently home to The Workers, LLC, 348 Smith St., “dealers/distributors of many types of food processing and packaging equipment as well as the supplies associated with that equipment.” The building was erected in 1927 and previously housed Alferi Laboratories, Inc. The far one is currently home to Interfaith Christian Assembly, 344 Smith St. The building was erected in 1929 and previously housed the Sawyer Paper Co., a paper dealer/wholesaler. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard still here. |
