ACFX 8-axle tank car 17790 was photographed on the Norfolk Southern at Readiag, Pennsylvania. This 42,541-gallon car had a CAPY of 301,700 pounds and a LT WT of 138,300 pounds, for a gross rail load of 440,000 pounds. This was the last of 12 cars (17779-17790) built under ACF Industries Lot No. 71-14188 for its Shippers' Car Line Division in August 1970, and they were initially leased to Uniroyal, Inc. for vinyl chloride service. The last movement recorded for this car was from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania on the NS to Selkirk, Manitoba on the Canadian Pacific in January 2006. Selkirk is the site of Gerdau Steel, which scraps rail cars. |
