In late 2002 the Canadian National removed the last vestiges of the former Illinois Central inbound and outbound main lines just north of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. These two lines had been severed at the New Orleans city limit in early 1954, when the IC began using NOUPT; but remained in place to serve various freight customers. These businesses gradually switched to truck, relocated or went out of business, and by the beginning of the 21st century none were left. In this view, a pair of ICG gondolas were collecting ties along Earhart Boulevard near South Dupre Street. |
