| When the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority built the new CANAL STREET car line, the rails were laid on continuous concrete slabs instead of crossties. This view is looking towards the Mississippi River at Bernadotte Street. A ceremonial ground-breaking had been held on Canal Street at Carrollton Avenue on 20 July 2001 and service began on 18 April 2004. (approximate date of photo) |
