Newly-rebuilt and freshly-painted Louisiana & North West GP7 50 was parked outside the railroad’s shop at Gibsland, Louisiana. The locomotive had been built in June 1953 as Union Pacific 711, was renumbered UP 111 in November 1953, retired in July 1979 and used as a trade-in to General Electric on 13 March 1980. GE sold it to the Louisiana & North West in January 1981, where it was rebuilt into L&NW 50 and was completed the day before this photo was taken. |
