New Orleans Public Service CANAL LINE car 950 was running around the loop at the foot of Canal Street. Barely visible on the right was the LIBERTY MONUMENT, which was subsequently removed. The photo was taken from the pedestrian viaduct which crossed several railroad tracks and provided unobstructed access to the ferry landing on the Mississippi River. Car 950 was built by the Perley A. Thomas Car Works in 1924 and was scrapped in May 1964, right before the original CANAL car line closed. |
