I quote from a plaque inside this newly renovated car... COMBINATION CAR NO. 102 - This combination passenter and baggage car was built by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad in their shops at Oneonta, N.Y. in 1904. Originally carried No. 540, until 1927 when the car was rebuilt and renumbered 546. In 1943 the car was again renumbered to 102. During the last two decades of the cars existence on the D&H it operated on the Plattsburgh to Lake Placid line in northern New York. Retired in 1960, the car then served for a brief spell on the Blackmount and Haverhill R.R., a short ived tourist line at North Haverhill, N.H. In August 1974 this car was the first to carry passengers on Conway Scenic Railroad. Car 102 is 76 feet long, weighs 60 tons, and seats 38 passengers. A tip of the hat to the folks at DownEast for an excellent restoration job.! /DL |
