In the Internet age, it's not often that extant railroad relics previously unknown to the wider railfan community are "discovered," but this seems to be one such case. At least I personally had no idea that these were here until someone posted a similar photo to a Facebook group a couple weeks ago. This is on the former Milwaukee Road line between Janesville and Milton, which was mostly abandoned between Jackson Street and the location known as Anderson, where it crossed over the C&NW's line to Fond du Lac, following a washout in 1989. Then-operator Wisconsin & Calumet secured trackage rights over the C&NW to cover that section, an arrangement which continues today under WSOR/UP. This short section north of Memorial Drive was kept in as a spur, which UP mostly kept full of stored freight cars. Those were pulled a couple of weeks ago, which along with some brush cutting revealed these long-lost survivors. |
