The Great Northern was a frugal railroad who had their shops re-use and rebuild older models of locos into newer efficient designs like this 2-8-2 Mikado from an older L-6 class 2-6-6-2 loco. Starting in 1925, the older articulateds were transformed into powerful and efficient 2-8-2 Mikados.
