Mann. Here is the fourth of four successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos taken by John M. Prophet III on 16 October 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6723, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1930 and retired in December of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. In this context, it's about to pass through the Duncannon Passenger Station with a short string of empty hopper cars out of Enola bound for Altoona and the coal mines in Western Pennsylvania. Partially visible at the left is a small portion of the Juniata River. ("PrrFan18n") |
