Interesting history to this Illinois Central car #7. It was built by Pullman in 1917 (serial #4466) as Illinois Central 17. It was renumbered 7 in 1940. The car was eventually sold as CM&N 7 "Doonin" around 1980 and painted in the orange/brown IC paint scheme. Later the car was resold to Thompson Farms Co 7 and again repainted. Eventually the business car was moved to the Monticello Railway Museum for display. It was restored as the orange/brown IC business car #7. I believe this photo by an unknown photographer fits into the history as still on the Illinois Central roster just before the sale to Chicago, Madison & Northern where it picked up the orange/brown paint scheme. No location was given. Can anyone confirm the location and ownership at this point in time? |
