Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1952. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5903 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5903 was constructed in March of 1951. They're about to pass under the 12th Street Footbridge with a westbound passenger train and will soon stop to change crews, as well as to discharge and board passengers. The gray-colored building pictured in the center is the Railway Express Office; the two-story red-brick building to its left is the PRR's Freight Station. The silver-colored structure in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge; to its right is the 9th Street Footbridge. |
