The engineer of this consist struck up some friendly conversation as I snapped this photo. This train had been "FRAD", meaning it was basically under special restricted movement orders. Apparently, an inspector with the Federal Railroad Administration had been by Calhoun in the last week, and the four locomotives in this consist has been ordered shutdown because of mechanical and safety problems. On this night, the two lead locomotives were powered up under a one-time move order for a run to the maintenence shops in Nashville, TN. The other two locomotives in the consist were restricted from even being started up. |
