At 10:00 Texas & Pacific train No. 22, the last remnant of the LOUISIANA EAGLE, was stopped at the new station in Shreveport, on its way from Fort Worth to New Orleans. We don’t know when this photo was taken, but it was between 25 September 1967, when the sleeping car was discontinued, and 17 December 1969, when the train made its last run. The new station was opened in 1963 along the main line on West 70th Street, just south of the Greater Shreveport Municipal Airport and just west of CUT OFF JUNCTION. This eliminated a 6-mile detour from CUT OFF JUNCTION to the old station at 104 Market Street and then back again, which added 55 minutes to train schedules. Inbound trains were turned on the wye at TS&N JUNCTION, just before backing into the old station. TS&N was the Texarkana, Shreveport & Natchez, which originally owned the T&P line between Texarkana and Shreveport. (approximate date of photo) |
