Here is page one of a three-page article entitled "Urgent Job For PRR Men: 'Keep Hoppers Moving.'" It was published originally in the May 1956 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 1. Lower Photo Caption: "Steam power comes out of storage to aid PRR's diesels in the current 'big push' of coal and ore hopper trains." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6787, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during April of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in September of 1946, and retired in September of 1959 after 29 years of service. The road numbers of the A-B-A set of ALCo diesels in the upper photo are not recorded. |
