End of the line for the old C&NW
Looking northwest from Webb Avenue. The heavily overgrown rails of the one-time Chicago & Northwestern Chicago-Twin Cities mainline continue for about another 1,600' or so. Until about 2009-10 there was one customer at the end of track, just across WIS-33, but it hasn't been used since then. C&NW abandoned the portion of the line from there to Camp Douglas in 1987. Within the last couple of years, the signals at this and the other two remaining crossings to the west were taken out. It was rumored that the tracks would be ripped out last year as well, but so far that hasn't occurred.
