Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer via Rail Photo Service that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5529, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in November of 1945 and retired in December of 1953 after just eight years of service. In this context, it's slowing to a stop with an eight-car westbound passenger train; the "Broadway Limited" it's not! At the left is an A-B-A set of GM-EMD EH-15 diesels awaiting their next helper assignment up "The Mountain." Photo taken from the 12th Street Footbridge. John S. Fisher Collection; #8 of 8. |
