Rugged looking 4-6-4 Hudson was built by Alco-Schenectady in September of 1937 as NYC 5409 (serial #68843, class J-3a). The loco served for nearly 31 years before being retired in February of 1956. The photo was taken a month later so it wasn't immediately sent to the scrapper's torch. May be the last photo of this proud loco ever taken.
