Taking a spin on the turntable in the Joplin, MO, yard is Frisco 2-8-0 Consolidation #1247. Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in October of 1907 (serial #32104), it was rebuilt in 1930 with a new superheater and piston valves. As many in the 1226 class, it was sold for scrap in January of 1952. . Specs - class 1226, 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x30" cylinders, engine weight of 207,000 lb, tractive effort of 43,300 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo |
