PRR Westbound Helpers, c. 1949
Baera 1. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1949. Prominent here is an unidentified A-B-A set of Pennsylvania Railroad diesel-electric locomotives built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. They're pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they will be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." (Track 1)
