PRR 9534, EF-15, 1960
AHC. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Althona, Pennsylvania, on 13 August 1960. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9534 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9534 is an EF-15 constructed in September of 1948 and retired in October of 1967 after just 19 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set is pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East.
