Here is a postal card entitled "Pennsylvania Main Line Canal" that's published and distributed by the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site. No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "A Passenger Packet entering the lock just vacated by a burden boat in a small town along the Juniata River. Canal boats had a speed limit of four miles per hour! Watercolor by Philip J. Hoffmann (1889-1973)." The Canal System was active from 1832 through 1872. |
