Junction City is one of Wisconsin's busiest railroad hot spots. Over the course of various mergers through the years, both lines here fell under the control of Wisconsin Central LTD in the late 1980s. Their flag fell to CN in 2001. Nineteen years, 354 days elapsed between the last time I shot a train here, and this day. Those pictures are the first ones in this album. I didn't intend for it to happen, but it just kept getting kicked down the road. For some reason I had it in my head that it was a long ways away from me living in Madison, even though it's really only another hour beyond Wisconsin Dells, where I've shot CP(KC) trains on a quite regular basis over the years. The maroon and gold SD45s may be gone, but this pair of SD60s makes for a nice link back to the days when high-horsepower, spartan cab EMDs were the rule rather than the exception. I'll definitely be back again on a much shorter interval! |
