| MILW 4-6-0 #1162 has reached the end of a very productive life as it sits in the scrap line at the Proviso, IL yard missing its voice - the bell. Built by Baldwin & Company in October of 1897 as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul #853, it was changed many times after - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #222, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #860, renumbered in 9/1912 to CMStP 4107, simplified and renumbered in9/1924 to CMStP #2373, renumbered in 9/1938 to CMStP&P #1162. The loco was retired in July of 1954 after nearly 57 years of service. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
