After Y129, it was time to get set up along the INRD to grab the SAHW heading south. We had planned on going to see the Nickel Plate Express Reindeer Run in the evening, so we decided not to stray outside of Indy. After debating on where to grab the train we decided on Railroad Avenue which parallels the tracks about 5 miles south of the throat of Senate Avenue Yard. Google Maps is always a great help in telling where trains are especially in densely populated areas with the traffic feature. It was clear that SAHW had pulled out of the yard and was blocking traffic near the yard, but there was no indication that it had come any further than that. It took a solid hour before the train finally showed up to where we were, all 5 EMD motors absolutely roaring with the longer than normal train in tow. Our only assumption is that they had to double up a few times given the length. |
