RDG 3412 Long Hood to Cab Shot  Contributor's Pick!
A long hood to cab view of RDG 3412, EMD GP 39-2. 2,300hp freight locomotive built in 1974 for main line freight service. The Reading had 20 GP 39-2's in freight service and are Second Generation diesels, as they replaced diesels engine that replaced steam locomotives in the 1950's. The GP 39-2's were the last road freight engines acquired before Conrail. Their Reading livery was an apple green with yellow nose and rear V shaped stripes. Since these were new at that time on the Reading they were acquired by the D&H (Delaware & Hudson RR))later the Chessie System. This locomotive was donated by the Chessie System to the Reading RR Heritage Museum. source my copy of Reading RR heritage Museum page 5, and http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locopicture.aspx?id= 57718.
