Milemarker 96 JC  Contributor's Pick!
Milemarker 96 letters JC are for Jersey City, NJ. The CNJ had a terminal there and the station still stands and is part of Liberty State Park. Not known where this milemarker came from. The steel rod in the bucket with C.R.R. not known what that is or its origin.

Tom Beckett General Not sure exactly where MP 96 would have been. The LV and CNJ, prior to CNJ pulling out of PA in 1972, had done some line swapping, mostly in the Lehigh River area west of Allentown, but also had some track "realignment" in the Allentown/Bethlehem area-the yard that Conrail, and now NS, use in Allentown, was the CNJ yard. The line heading up through Catasuaqua and Siegfried, I think, was the CNJ. My CR timetable from 1992 or so shows some MP adjustments where the Lehigh Line changed right of way, making MP 96 somewhere around Siegfried. The Lehigh Line crosses the Delaware River at MP 76.6, but not sure if that is a LV milepost, or CNJ. 6/24/2024 4:45:05 AM
