Long before a Fairbanks Morse diesel wore the number 403, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado had the nonor. Buiilt by Baldwin in May of 1922 as MILW #8303, it was later renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 403. The loco was officially scrapped in December of 1955 after 33 years of service. Specs - L2b class,, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 292,770 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
