Long before a Fairbanks Morse diesle was assigned the number MILW 416, this 2-8-2 Mikado had the nonor of wearing it. Built by Baldwin in September of 1922 as MILW #8316, it was later renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 416. Unfortunately when this photo was taken, the loco only had a few months left before retirement. The loco was eventually scrapped in December of 1954 after 32 years of service. Specs - class L-2b, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 292,770 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
