Marty, this is an interesting picture! First of all, when these trains were built for intercity passenger service, they carried a fancy observation car. These would have been useless in commuter service, so they were not used. Secondly, who took photos of these trains from the rear end when those observation cars were not in place? Except you Marty! You were there to make the record for posterity! Thanks very much for doing that! And finally, this photo shows something else about the Rock Island's commuter service in those days; marker lights! Every train had them. Kerosene markers; lit at night! And if the Aerotrains were going to be in commuter service, well then by gum...they were going to carry markers too! The Rock may not have had much money, but they followed TRADITION!
