Mark Dinkel General Station is still actively used by train crews for Union Pacific. In the days of passenger trains, the offices to the right of the porte-cochere were occupied by the train master. The front of the station is east while the baggage room at the rear is west. The station had a large waiting room with an arched ceiling and gift counter. Passengers boarded on the north side. This photo is taken southeast of the station looking northwest. This station was the terminus of the M10000 - following its nationwide tour it was repainted and renamed to the "City of Salina" running from Salina to Kansas City, Missouri. The midpoint on the south side projecting out was used for telegraphy. 7/16/2012 6:56:57 PM
