Australia's most famous steam locomotive, she has travelled to every mainland state and territory. 3801 still holds the record for the fasted Newcastle Flyer between Sydney & Newcastle on 28 June 1964 with a time of 2 hours 1 minute and 58 seconds. She has been infront of such trains as the Flyers, the Melbourne Limited, the Southern Highlands Express, the Central West Express and other trains of every discription. The class was made up of 5 streamlined & 25 non-streamlined locomotives. Clyde Engineering built 3801 to 3805 with the NSWGR's own workshops building the rest. Odd numbers were built at Cardiff Workshops near Newcastle while the even numbers were built at Eveleigh Workshops near Sydney.
