A tired G1
The original G1, the Northermost girder, after clearing, and awaiting restoration. State Historical requirements dictate that the railroad restore the exterior girders (G1 & G5) so this girder will be removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled to carry the next century of New Jersey Travelers. Note the triangular knee braces. These are structural elements that keep the girders in perfect vertical alignment so that they attain their greatest strength.
