WPRR 2307  Contributor's Pick!
Found this unit sitting by itself at the Route 8 overpass in St. Mary's Yard on a very wet morning. Like many Willamette & Pacfic units, this one is named for a town on the railroad, in this case, Indepedence, OR. This is a former Santa Fe unit. At one time, it wore Kodochrome colors. Power for this locomotive is provided by a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD 645E3 diesel engine, which can produce 2,300 horsepower. Railroads that bought it, chose it for its improved fuel econemy over the ormally aspirated GP38-2.
