This was also on the day of the Krivoklat steam excursion, and this was our locomotive, ex-CSD #498.022. The 498 Class was supposedly the fastest Czech steam locomotive class of all time with a speed record of 162Km/h in 1964, set by #498.106 "Albatros." This locomotive is often mistaken for #498.106 "Albatros," and is even misrepresented in the literature promoting steam trips in the Czech Republic, partly because the locomotives are sisters in the same class. This three-car train, incidentally, was NOT our train, as our train was closer to 42 cars, if I'm remembering right. 498.022 didn't stop this time, as it had to go fetch the rest of the train before backing into the station again. |
