In order to retain active train traffic adjacent to the bays of the bridge where abutment rehabilitation is needed, sheeting must be driven. This is accomplished using 30-foot long, 14-inch deep, 1-1/2 ton steel beams, and 1-inch-thick steel plates between the beams. The crane is attached to a vibratory hammer--a 3500-pound vibrating weight that literally shakes the pile into the ground. |
