PRR 7128, EFS-17M, 1961 |
Description: |
Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #7128, #7170, and three others that are not visible. All five are EFS-17M's built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. They are pulling a 50-car eastbound TrucTrain around the Horseshoe Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Wave to the head-end brakeman in the second unit! As of 04 July 2016, or 55 years later, #7128 ~ now numbered "7580" ~ is in active excursion service with Steam Into History at New Freedom, Pennsylvania. |

PRR 7128, EFS-17M, 1962 |
Description: |
MDiv. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken near Duncannon, Pennsylvania, in May of 1962. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7128 and two more "Geeps" whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7128 was built in June of 1957 and is presently in excursion service as Northern Central Railway number "7580" in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. They're about to pass the Duncannon Passenger Station with a string of empty hoppers on their way to Altoona and the coal mines of Western Pennsylvania. ("Stoneborobranch"; #51 of 56) |
