Title:
PC 6121, SD45, 1973
Description:
PC Power. Here is an original photo that I took from the 12th Street Footbridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in June of 1973. Shown here (F to R) are Penn Central Railroad engines #6121, #8071, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #6121 is an SD45 delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad in October of 1966 and rated at 3,600 horsepower. #8071 is a GP38-2. They're passing the Altoona Passenger Station with a long string of hopper cars that they've brought down the Allegheny Mountains from Gallitzin and points West. The large structure in the distance is the now-abandoned Pennsylvania Railroad Test Plant; a bit further to the right is the 17th Street Bridge; in the far distance are the eastern slopes of the Allegheny Mountains.
