PRR DS-4-4-1000 9275 |
Description: |
PRR DS-4-4-1000 9275 somewhere in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, circa June 1965, photo by R. S. Short, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built in January, 1949 (c/n 73888), Baldwin built two versions of the DS-4-4-1000, the successor to the VO-1000. The first version was powered by a normally-aspired 608NA eight-cylinder diesel, and the second version was powered by the 606SC six-cylinder Elliot turbocharged diesel. The spotting feature is four exhaust stacks for the 608NA, and a single stack for the 606SC. |

Description: |
WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #9275, a BS-10A built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949 and rated at 1,000 horsepower.
