CB&Q E8 9941B
Title:  CB&Q E8 9941B
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E8 9941B, Chicago Union Station (CUS), May 19, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in March 1950 (c/n 9682) on EMD Order 2012A, it became BN 9934 sometime after March 2, 1970, was sold to Amtrak August 1, 1972 and was renumbered to 333, was retired and scrapped in 1977.

This is as far east as you could go on the CB&Q, although technically, the CB&Q tracks ended a couple of miles behind this train at about Union Avenue, and this train is on CUS Company rails. This locomotive had just brought a Dinky into Union Station, the class lights are on and red, now what? I asked Karl Rethwisch, a retired CB&Q (and BN) Engineer about the procedure of getting the Dinkys out of the station, and here is his relpy:

First, while still inbound and passing 14th Street, I would cut the steam off to the train so the line would be safe to disconnect by the Carmen in the yard. Once in the Depot we'd unload the passengers, wait for the back up signal and then - - back up. These moves were controlled by the back-up hose as were all such operations in those days (pre radio). The Switchtender under 12th Street would have to line us into the assigned track and indicate to the rear man that we were indeed lined in. Proceeding up the lead we would shove to the limit of the yard track and stop. The stop was courtesy of the back up hose. We, the Engineer and Fireman, were done for that leg of the trip. At some time later, the Hostler would come and gather up the engines and run 'em over to the pit for servicing and turning. Later in the day the Hostler would bring the engines back to the trains to which assigned and we'd do it all over again only this time, in the reverse order of the morning move.
