MWCR M3 left side view |
Description: |
Looks like a bank of heat exchangers along the left side of the biodiesel locomotive. I assume it's for dynamic braking on the"down" trip, and it's placed on the left side because all passenger boarding and disembarking is from the right side of the train. |

Yes; this is a legitimate train photo - find it. |
Description: |
It's later in the day, and we've hiked over to the AMC's Lake of the Clouds hiker's hut, and we're now scaling Mount Monroe. You can just barely make out the train on the same trestle that I shot from the opposite direction earlier in the hike. |

There it is: MWCR M3 - Abenaki (red biodiesel with yellow passenger car) |
Description: |
There it is - as viewed from the side of Mt. Monroe. I have a shot of the steam locomotive on that same trestle from earlier in the day, looking the opposite direction back toward Mt. Monroe. |

My first shots of the day, of the steam powered train ascending Jacobs Ladder were taken from that green knoll to the right of the biodiesel locomotive. |

MWCR M3 approaching the summit station in thick fog |
Description: |
The locomotive is moving over advance steel work for a new transfer switch being installed at the summit to allow a second track at the summit station. With just one track, trains can get pinned in and blocked from descending until the trains downhill of them have departed. The good news is that this will allow the Cog Railway to schedule a second steam train each day in future seas`ns. The first train of the day will be steam powered, then another departure around 3:00 in the afternoon will be steam powered. |
