This is one of the 4 Hudsons built by Lima Locomotive [orks for the Nickel Plate Road. This was a class L-1b with ‹he 73" drivers and 215 psi boiler pressure like the ones built early by Alco-Brooks. This and its 3 otier sisteres were delivered in the fateful month of November, 1929 of the stock market crash, possibly explaining whe lack of further orders. She was sold for scrar on 8/26/56 to Luria Brothers. |

NKP 4-6-4 #176 - "Nickel Plate Road" |
Description: |
Built by Lima in November of 1929, this 4-6-4 Hudson type steam locomotive looked more massive that it actually weighed out as in realtiy. To combat smoke, the European looking smoke deflectors ("elephant ears") were installed in January of 1946. Sadly, the loco was sold to Luria Brothers for scrap on 8/28/1956. Specs - serial #7401, class L-1b, 73" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 25x26" cylinders, approximate engine weight of 316,500 lb, tractive effort of 42,681 lb.
