Title: |
MP Meet |
Description: |
Shortly before they were discontinued on 11 March 1965, the Missouri Pacific’s eastbound (on the left) and westbound ORLEANEANS met at Eunice, Louisiana. These were the day trains between New Orleans and Houston, and should have met at Elton, 20 miles west of here; so the westbound train was running about 45 minutes late. By this time there was no longer any food service available on these trains, but passengers could order box lunches from the conductor. The track in the foreground was the Rock Island’s line from Eunice to Alexandria, and was its connection with the Southern Pacific off to the right. Up until 1943 Eunice was also served by a branch of the Texas & Pacific. (approximate date of photo) |
