Odd corner |
Description: |
The oddest corner of the vast B&O system was on a rapid transit system in New Yorks Staten Island. For many years, til the MTA took over the trains, the B&O ran the Staten Island Rapid Transit, which carried riders from the St George ferry terminal down to Tottenville. They also handled whatever freight traffic was on the line. I lucked into a one car local while on a class break one day in 1977. Power was a B&O SW with one car and a caboose. Im guessing this is Port Richmond, on the line from AK draw to St George, which once had rapid transit service, but has not in many years, as can be seen in the stripped down high level platform and single track. Oddly, the stairs from the street are still in place, and if I recall, were not blocked off. |
